Preparing for Magento 2

The release of the much-anticipated Magento 2 is right around the corner. It has been rolled out in beta form, and it’s currently being tested and getting ready for full launch. The company plans the official release in November of this year.

Merchants will start using Magento 2 to manage their businesses like never before. While the original Magento was impressive in its ability, Magento 2 has much more in store, from improved architecture and CMS management capabilities to more payment options and greater customization and control. Start preparing for this innovative platform now by learning about its new features and how your current platform will integrate.

New Features

• Magento 2’s structure is different from its predecessor. Each module is stored with a directory view and in separate folders. This means developers don’t need to tinker with core files to make changes, which will save businesses on development costs. Code can also be changed and maintained easily because Magento 2 uses an upgraded pre-processor.

• The platform will offer easy external integration. The company upgraded the API (application programming interface) and will allow merchants to integrate external systems used for transactions, inventory, or other tasks easily. Additionally, this allows merchants to manage data across all platforms and external systems. You can create, update, and delete data more efficiently from one area.

• The user-interface library is stocked with both generic and specific templates and patterns. This makes it much easier to customize your themes. There’s also a blank theme option that allows developers to build from scratch.

• Magento 2 took the original platform’s performance and scalability standards and made them even better. Indexers are faster, and the platforms allows for multiple administrators. Magento 2 also comes with a toolkit for testing scripts. It includes an installer for any upgrades or external installations in the future.

• There’s an all-new testing framework that comes with Magento 2. It platform includes testing mechanisms for integrations, performance, function, static areas, and more. Separate components need no manual testing, which means faster fixes if something needs repairs.

How to Integrate

If your business already uses the previous version of Magento, integration is fairly simple. You will need to export all your standard data before importing to Magento 2. Standard data includes:

• Customer records
• Product catalogs
• Inventory database
• Customer database
• Other business records
• And more

Once you export these files successfully, they can be imported into Magento 2 from the dashboard. However, Magento themes can’t be imported and exported. You’ll need to build a new theme in Magento 2. Its architecture is optimized, so building a theme isn’t as time-consuming as it had been. Any extensions you currently have operating on the original Magento will need to be recreated, as well.
