Hybris vs. Magento 2 Comparison

For your eCommerce website to truly shine, you need to choose the right platform. However, with so many options out there, it can be difficult to find the one best suited for your needs. Hybris and Magento 2 are both robust and flexible eCommerce platforms, allowing you to build a customized online store with valuable marketing tools. So which one is the best choice for your business?

Hybris

No matter what channel you want to conduct sales in, be it in-store, online, or mobile, Hybris can manage your site and encourage customer engagement. It also has a central order management system that allows for optimal business functionality with easy to learn systems. However, it has an expensive initial price point, which can make it out of the range of many users. For this reason, the community is smaller, making it difficult to find experienced developers. It’s also missing out on quality reporting and analytics features, which can limit its usefulness as an eCommerce platform.

Magento 2

Magento 2 excels in many of the categories where Hybris falls short. Magento 2 has even more customizable elements and add-ons than its predecessor, and the extensive community means there are plenty of people available to provide extra support. The basic Community Edition of Magento is free to start and maintain, making it much more accessible than Hybris‘ price point, which is great for smaller businesses. However, Magento 2 has a learning curve that can make it difficult for beginners to get a handle on. This platform also requires third-party hosting to operate.

Which One Is Best for You?

There is no one ultimate eCommerce solution, so picking out which platform is best for you will depend on the unique aspects of your business. The first deciding factor is probably the startup costs. Hybris has a robust system you can take advantage of, but the $50,000 starting point is no easy feat for a smaller business. Unless you have the financial resources on-hand to invest in Hybris, you’ll likely be better off finding a less expensive option through Magento 2. There are also advanced Magento options that you can start without Hybris’ high price tag.

However, if cost is no issue, then you’ll want to start thinking about overall functionality. Both Hybris and Magento 2 can take anywhere from weeks to years to set up, depending on what you want out of your site. However, Hybris is a bit easier to use out of the box, with straightforward features, but you may be in a bind if it gives you difficulty. Magento 2 has a higher learning curve, but the extensive community means that you shouldn’t have any trouble finding the help you need to get your site in working order.

The reporting features are another focus, as having the right tools on hand can make or break your eCommerce efforts. Hybris has some tools, but they’re somewhat weak in comparison to the built-in and open-source resources of Magento.
